Zoomlion sets out on waste separation project

As a leading private waste management company in Ghana, Zoomlion Ghana Limited has set out on a waste separation exercise to enhance work performance to a faster pace and make it virtually effortless for its workers who end up having to spend lots of time in the separation of waste. The private company is currently embarking on a pilot project at Asokwa, a suburb of Kumasi, to separate solid waste from liquid waste. This is to test if the project could achieve its intended purpose and later spread it nationwide. Lawrence Laryea, Head of Operation for the company in an interview said that the company has also gained possession of new litterbins which will be placed at various vantage points to help curb the general sanitation problem. Management of the company said that they had also acquired other new equipments including road sweepers and washers, skip trucks and water tankers to meet international cleaning standards but particularly ease their burden as they get ready to battle any sanitation issues during Ghana 2008. Greater Accra Regional supervisor of the company, Robert Coleman, noted that the greatest challenge the company was facing was the issue of landfill sites, explaining that the company’s truck drivers had to spend hours at such sites to dispose off refuse; a problem that was affecting their performance in the early disposal of waste material.
