Some religious bodies and other groups joined Zoomlion Ghana Limited on Saturday to undertake a clean-up dubbed “Peace Clean-up” to rid Accra of filth and called for peace before, during and after the December 7 polls.
The exercise which began at 6am at the Holy Gardens, Nkrumah Circle, was organised in 14 sub-metros within Nungua, La and Teshie in the Accra metropolis.
Mr Fredrick Ayensu, Supervisor of Zoomlion, said the company decided to involve religious groups in the exercise since they believed in the notion “cleanliness is next to godliness”.
He said Zoomlion also realised that it could use religious leaders to spread the message of environmental cleanliness to promote health.
Mr Ayensu advised the public to dump refuse at approved points in order to keep the country clean, whilst ensuring peace in the upcoming elections.
He said waste could be put to good use such as recycling for the production of fertilizers and appealed to the public to contact Zoomlion offices for free litter bins.
The religious groups that participated in the exercise were the Ghana Pentecostal Council, Christian Council of Ghana and the Office of the National Chief Imam.
The Krafty Hospitality Services, Accra Metropolitan Assembly Task Force, United Petty Traders Association, Circle Traders Association were among the groups that took part.
