The Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Zita Okaikoi has cut the sod for the construction of the Accra Visitor and Tourist Information Centre worth US$1.2 million.
The centre will serve local and foreign tourists in the provision of relevant information on Ghana and its tourists attractions and also generate revenue for developmental projects in the country.
The Minister at the ceremony in Accra reiterated that the government was committed to creating an enabling environment to attract more investors into the country and commended the Japanese government for its support in the area of education, health, sports and tourism among others for the past years.
The Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Katakemi Keiichi commended the government for promoting the tourism sector in the country.
He said the centre would not only serve as a contributor to the governments agenda of job creation in the country but also help foreigners visiting Ghana. He assured that the government of Japan was committed in helping to promote the tourism industry in the country towards economic growth.
Also present at the ceremony were the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Kwabena Acheampong, the Executive Director of the Ghana Tourist Board, Mr. Julius Debrah, the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mrs. Diana Hammond as well as the management and staffs of the Ministry and the Ghana Tourist Board.
