The Chiefs and people of the Ziavi Traditional Area in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region said their final goodbye to their Paramount Queen Mother, Mamagã Mawuedi II over the weekend.

The one-week final funeral rites were marked by the exhibition of indigenous Ewe culture.

Mama Mawuedi II known in private life as Edith Yohebeth Agbagba was selected among suitors from the Akpevi Paramount Royal Clan and installed in 2005 as the Paramount Queen mother of Ziavi Traditional Area.

Her 19 years on the throne brought a paradigm shift to chieftaincy affairs and community leadership in her jurisdiction.

She left behind 4 children who reckoned her as a disciplinarian and a selfless mother who went all out to ensure their success.

“We remember how you sacrificed everything for our education and well-being, even when resources were limited. Your devotion to our success was unwavering, and your support gave us the courage to pursue our dreams.

“Oh, Mamagã, we miss you more with each passing moment. Our lives will never be the same without you”, they grieved.

The Akpevi Paramount Royal Clan eulogized her as a philanthropist, down-to-earth, and resolute individual who always carried a calm demeanor.

She was celebrated for her wise counsel and adjudicating of marital issues, saving a lot of homes.

“Mamagã solely settled many marital conflicts in the community. Her counseling was on point. Mamagã was a crucial pivot of her family and the Royal Clan”, the Akpevi Paramount Royal Clan said.

The Ziavi Traditional Council identified the passing of Mamagã Mawuedi II as a great loss to the traditional area, emphasizing her contribution to the establishment of the Council.

“We neither thirst nor hunger when she was in the chair. She stood up against all odds to lay a strong foundation for the rich Ziavi Traditional Council in dealing with female issues of the traditional area as a whole”, the Council stated.

The Volta Region Queen Mothers Association recounted Mamagã Mawuedi II’s selfless devotion to affairs of the union ensuring every activity and plans are executed with perfection and crowned with success.

"Mamagà Mawuedi Il, joined the Volta Region Queen Mothers Association on 22nd February 2018. Even though she was new at the time, she would not keep mute for things to go wrong. She always makes her point on issues being discussed at every meeting as and when there is a need. Mamagà participated in the Association's activities actively since joining”, the Association said.

Queen Mothers of the Ziavi Traditional Area enthusiastically praised the late Queen for her organizational skills and her dedication to the wellbeing of women.

“We remember your rich counsel during our meetings. We remember the fond memories, especially the days we embark on trips. Your focus has been on the well-being and welfare of women in the Ziavi Traditional Area. You instituted some initiatives to take care of the needs of women's health and welfare”, they said.
