Tragedy has hit the Zambian senior national team, the ‘Chipolopolo’, following the loss of baggage of some of their officials and players.
Solly Pandor, the Team Manager, who confirmed the incident said the luggage contains jerseys, documents and other valuable items worth several thousands of dollars.
He attributed the loss of the items to the many transit points the team made on their way to Ghana to participate in this year’s African Cup of Nation CAN 2008 tournament, which kicks off on January 20.
“We are currently liaising with Immigration Officers in all the countries that we changed plights to ascertain the whereabouts of the luggage”, he told the GNA Sports, adding that the development would however not dampen the team’s morale in camp.
Pandor said that his outfit had notified officials of the Zambian Football Association about the development.
At the time of filing this report, a serious meeting had been convened by the management of the team to deliberate on the issue and how best they could find replacements for especially the jerseys.
Zambia are paired alongside Egypt, Cameroon and Sudan in Group ‘C’ at the Baba Yara Sports stadium in Kumasi.
