The youth of Esreso have appealed to Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to impress on the committee appointed to investigate a chieftaincy dispute in the town to fast track its work to diffuse the building tension in the town.
According to the youth, there has been growing tension, especially among the youth in the town as a result of the seemingly slow pace of the mediation process.
This is contained in a petition signed by Mr Kwaku Duah, a youth leader in the town and made available to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi.
The petition said the protracted chieftaincy dispute was affecting development and creating unnecessary animosity among the people and stressed the need for its speedy resolution to ensure that the rightful person is chosen to occupy the stool to bolster peace.
Recently, the youth staged a peaceful demonstration in the town to register their displeasure with the continued delay in choosing a rightful candidate for the stool following a dispute over the nomination of one Kojo Adomako Ansah, by the queen to occupy the stool.
A section of the royal family had kicked against the nomination claiming, he was not a royal and rather recommended one Kwaku Boakye, whom they consider as the true royal.
The matter is currently before the Asantehene, who appointed a committee to investigate the matter and come out with the rightful person to occupy the stool.
