The East-Akyem Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr Isaac Nkrumah, has advised the youth to make themselves relevant to the needs of Ghana’s development agenda.
He said Ghana with the discovery of oil and other initiatives was steadily progressing and the youth could only be recognized as partners if they had the requisite skills.
Mr Nkrumah, who gave the advice at the inauguration of a youth group at Kyebi known as the “Akyem-Abuakwa Youth Movement” (AAYoM), urged the members not to be satisfied with their status but rather aspire to higher heights.
He told them that they were being inaugurated at a time when Ghana was preparing to have an election and therefore cautioned them against being used as tools to foment trouble.
He said the “coming election is a crucial one that people are more than desperate and would, therefore, use any means possible to achieve their selfish motives and I urge you to stay clear of such contracts”.
The President of the movement, Ms Anita Adomako, said the group was a non-partisan youth oriented human resource and capacity building organization, which intended to establish a coercive youth in Akyem-Abuakwa.
According to her the idea to form the movement was motivated by the need to contribute to solving some of the societal problems and to press forth the civic rights and responsibilities of the youth in the area.
He cautioned members of the group saying, “the movement is not form to give you the right to insult adults or to challenge the traditional authority but to complement their efforts”.
The Abontendomhene, Nana Kyeretwie Boakye Danquah, congratulated the members for coming together to partner them to transform the society and later donated 500 GH cedis on behalf of the traditional council to the movement.
