Tension is mounting at Hedzranawo, a town near Denu in the Ketu District of the Volta Region, as angry youth demand accountability from the former Assemblyman and a group of elders of the town. The issue is generating a misunderstanding between the old assemblyman, Yaw Agbolosoo and the elders over the choice of venue for a meeting with the people. In a rather funny twist, the elders have summoned the former assemblyman in a letter signed by G.B. Dorkunor, the Secretary to the Chief of the town to appear and render accounts to them in private. "Your handing over note to the new assemblyman should include records of all projects undertaken for the area, income from toilets toll, welfare donations, items donated and all monies in your custody," the letter stated. However, the former assemblyman who said he had nothing to hide is demanding a public presentation of accounts contrary to the views of the elders who are demanding it is done behind closed doors before going public. On the meeting day on Tuesday, the elders refused to appear at the public arena as Mr Agbolosoo also refused to honour messages to report at the chief's palace leaving the youth disappointed. Mr Agbolosoo said he would not accept the closed door review of the accounts on the grounds that similar reviews with the elders in the past was not made public, exposing him to abuses and suspicion by the youth that he was in league with the elders. Daniel Dadzie, the new assemblyman, who emerged from the chiefs palace with his followers denied being behind agitations against his predecessor and instead reiterated that he would cooperate with the former assemblyman. "I only wanted a briefing on completed and uncompleted projects and those in the offing to enable me know where to continue from," he said. Mr Dadzie said he was personally not happy with a portion of the letter summoning his predecessor, which read, "Submit all funeral books and moneys in your custody to ensure peace among people in the electoral area. They have both agreed to meet on Sunday Jan 28 for the meeting, but the position of the elders on the venue is unclear since none of them could be reached. Source: GNA
