Mr. Lawrence Kwaku Lartey, Acting Director of the Legal and Investigation Unit of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), on Tuesday urged the youth to fight for their rights to enhance good governance and democracy in the country.
He said fundamental human rights formed the bedrock of every issue in society and must therefore be protected and guided against any form of abuse.
Mr Lartey, made the call at a quiz competition organized by the Commission for 10 senior high schools at Elmina and Winneba, as part of activities heralding the celebration of human rights day, which falls on December 10.
The CHRAJ official, who was the quizmaster, commended the participants for performing well in the quiz, which was mainly on human rights and the activities of the Commission and called on school children to take their studies seriously.
Winneba Senior High School came first with 59 points, Adisadel Senior High School, second with 52 points, Mfantsiman Senior High School, third with 47, Apam Senior High School and Sammo Senior High School had 46 points each and place fourth.

The winning school in the region would compete with its counterpart from the Western Region at the zonal level on November 19, and the wining school would participate in the national quiz, which is to be held later in the month.
Mr. James Dawson-Amoah, Assistant Central Regional Director of CHRAJ, said the quiz was held annually to educate the public on human rights and to introduce human rights activities among school children.
He commended the schools for participating in the competition and was hopeful that a school from the region would win the national quiz.
