A group of the clergymen from different Christian denominations have commended Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his conduct at the just ended Presidential election.
Dr. Bawumia stunned the nation when he held an early morning press briefing to concede defeat even before the Electoral Commission commenced collation of official results, citing data he had seen from internal collation of results.
During a visit to Dr. Bawumia's residence on Wednesday to commiserate with him, the Clergymen said the Vice President’s early concession address saved the nation from tension. They praised him for demonstrating political maturity.
"We are also very grateful the way you came out to concede defeat very early. It calmed a lot of tension. Thank you," said Apostle George Apasera, who spoke on behalf of the pastors.
"You really exhibited maturity which all of us do admire. In fact all of us, at our various places were wondering how you would feel. We were all concerned but we were praying that the Lord would strengthen you. After that we have seen you okay on a number of occasions and you are still beaming with your usual smile and you're still looking energetic and strong. We are sure that you have really exhibited a lot of maturity politically. May God bless you and your family."
The pastors urged Dr. Bawumia not to be discouraged because he did his best. They assured him that it is not the end for him.
"It is unfortunate that the ultimate did not fall on your side, but you have really done your best and we came to congratulate you for that.''
"We say God bless you and God will watch over your life and guide you with His eyes. This is not the end of the road. You are still a young man and there is still a lot ahead of you."
