One in four adults haven’t had sex in the past year, statistics show. In a General Social Survey, 23% of over 18s said they lack intimacy in their lives.
And according to Fox News, a large proportion of these people are “20-something men”.
While it’s easier than ever to find a hook-up online or on a dating app, abstinence appears to be at an all-time high.
The Washington Post looked at sex survey data from the last decade.
It found that three times as many males under 30 reported no sex over the course of 12 months.
While 28% of young men have abstained for a year, this figure sits at 18% for women aged between 18 and 30.
Jean Twenge, a professor of psychology at San Diego State University, believes this is because many millennials don’t live together.
She explained: “There are more people in their twenties who don’t have a live-in partner. “So under those circumstances, I think less sex is going to happen…
“When you’re living at home it’s probably harder to bring sexual partners into your bedroom.”
The rise of technology is perhaps another reason why twenty-somethings are bonking less.
Professor Twenge explained “(there are) more things to do at 10 o’clock at night than there were 20 years ago”.
She added that chaps could be swerving romps in favour of “streaming video, social media, console games” and “everything else”.
