Yendi MP, Farouk Aliu Mahama has presented a cash sum of ¢10,000 to Ghana Water Company as payment for the effective facilitation of free water services for the constituents.
The move, according to the MP, is to aid Ghana Water Company in the constituency to engage the services of water tankers in the distribution and supply of constant water to the constituents
This emergency intervention comes in the wake of the water shortage which has hit over 72,000 homes in the constituency.
The shortage is due to the drying up of the municipality’s main source of water, River Dakar.
The dire situation has impacted negatively on economic activities, with residents having to buy water from tanker contractors.
Those who are unable to afford to buy water from the tanker contractors are compelled to walk long distances in search of water from Yendi. The MP believes “the support will cushion Ghana Water Company to ameliorate the plight of residents.”
A delegation led by the personal assistant of Farouk Aliu Mahama which presented the cash sum to the office of the Ghana Water Company observed that “the move forms part of series of interventions initiated by the MP to alleviate the issue of water crisis while they await for government’s $30m Yendi Water Project to kick start and come on stream”.
The MP’s assistant also revealed the MP “has begun processes in the dredging of the River Dakar to increase the water holding capacity of the main water source for an all year round efficient and effective supply of water”.
