The Member of Parliament for the Yendi Constituency, Faruok Aliu Mahama, has called for unity among party members to help improve the overwhelming voter figures of the 2022 election.

He said there is the need for all to put aside their differences and join hands together in order to achieve this.

There have been issues in the constituency, ranging from the compiling of the voter album to divisions among the party members in the area.

This forced the party to postpone the constituency elections, which was slated for Thursday, April 28, until a meeting was held to resolve the impasse.

After a letter signed by the General Secretary of the party, John Boadu, was received by the feuding factions, a road map has been agreed upon by all the relevant stakeholders to allow the elections to be conducted Sunday, May 1.

This notwithstanding, 11 old Executives who were opposed to the register also issued a statement stating that though they disagree with the outcome of the decision taken at the meeting, they accept and would abide by the rules of the party in the interest and unity of the party.

It further stated that they are by this statement withdrawing from the upcoming constituency elections.

Speaking with the delegates Mr Faruok Mahama said “the New Patriotic Party is a big peaceful family", therefore the need to end the internal bickering amongst themselves and unit as one.

Mr Mahama said when he assumed office, he was largely aware of challenges that existed in the Yendi township, but with the support of all, they have begun the story of a New Yendi City where they have been able to fix some of the problems in the area.

On Agriculture, he said they have been able to institute annual input support to over one thousand farmers and supported some farmers financially.

The MP said they have commenced the 100 borehole project in the Yendi Constituency to address the perennial water shortage, adding that so far, 20 have been completed and commissioned for use.

He said the next consignment of boreholes will commence as soon as the rainy season is over.

The MP also said the GNPC has also drilled 20 boreholes in the area. He said they are also rehabilitating existing boreholes in several communities to enhance water supply.

On youth unemployment, the MP said start-up capital was presented to women in the Constituency, 70 people employed at the COCOBOD, 100 slots for the youth and Women in Forestry, 100 barbering machines for barbers, among other projects.

Mr Mahama also named the installation of 1,500 street lights as part of the new Yendi city agenda, 5,000 domestic bulbs for over 1,000 households, 500 electric poles and four transformers for power extension to communities.

He said work is far advanced to connect some eight communities to the National Grid. He added that grinding mills were also provided to various electoral areas and some selected women groups.

On women empowerment, the MP said the NPP government has provided skills training for over 1000 women across the Constituency, adding the provision of financial literacy training and certification of over 700 women has also been achieved.

He mentioned the rehabilitation of the Tatale-Zabzugu-Yendi road, rehabilitation of the Yendi-Kpligini-Tamale road, upgrading of 100km Sakpegu-Cheriponi road, Yendi inner-city roads, upgrading of Yendi-Saboba roads among others as some of the government projects in the area.

On health, he mentioned free hepatitis B screening and vaccination for 2000 people, free health screening for 1000 people in rural communities, free eye screening and surgery for 1000 people, renovation and upgrade of the Yendi mortuary among others as some of the achievements chalked in the health sector.

On education, the MP said the NPP government provided educational materials to over 1,000 students in 20 basic schools, provided mathematical sets to all BECE candidates in 2020, scholarships for 80 students in various tertiary schools, renovation of the Yendi Presby School among others.
