The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with German construction firm INZAG Germany GmbH for over 700 artisans to be recruited and trained for the construction and rehabilitation of 64.7-kilometre Ashaiman to Akosombo dual carriage road.
The artisans who will be recruited nationwide include carpenters, plumbers, steel benders and many more.
Speaking at a press conference held at the YEA headquarters on Tuesday, November 29th, 2022 to officially sign the agreement, the Chief Executive of the Youth Employment Agency, Mr Kofi Baah Agyepong said, the MoU goes a long way to reinforce the commitment of the agency to providing training, development and upskilling of artisans and to equip them with the quality skills widely sought after by employing firms who need some particular skills to boost their production and achieve their organizational goals.
On the MoU, he said the agreement has been put together with the safety and welfare of workers at heart.
“Ladies and gentlemen, it is critical to highlight that this agreement has been carefully put together with the welfare and safety of the workers at heart. Workers to be employed under this agreement will have their income tax, social security contributions and all statutory payments made on their behalf by INZAG Germany,“ he said.
Again, Mr. Baah Agyepong called on private investors to rely on the YEA for their labour needs.
He reiterated that government alone can not employ the teeming youth unless the private sector intervenes.
“I call on private investors, both local and foreign, industry players, public corporations and enterprises to rely on the YEA for their labour needs. We stand prepared to meet the skills needs of all entities with quality labour that will assist growing firms to achieve their goals.”
