Cocoa farmers in parts of the country are being exposed to information on the use and application of a new fertilizer product on the Ghanaian market.
Yara Ghana, a leading producer and distributor of mineral fertilizer, introduced the product after five years of research at the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG).
The ‘Nitrabor’ fertilizer, when mixed with the widely patronized ‘Kokoo Asaase Wura’, offers farmers high yields and improves the quality of cocoa.
Retail and Sales Manager at Yara Ghana, Henry Otoo Mensah, told Luv Biz Report the campaign to increase the application of the product is holding in 11 districts in the 6 cocoa growing regions.
He said the product addresses critical areas of providing nutrients to the cocoa pod and beans.
“It is able to hold at bay some of the very major diseases that affect cocoa like the Black Pod…it is able to produce more healthy pods, more healthy beans, heavier beans and increase upon the yield of farmers”, he stated.
Ghana has set the target of producing one million metric tones of cocoa in the current main crop season.
