The Western Regional Canoe Fishermen Association, on Monday commended President John Atta Mills for his efforts to develop the canoe fisheries sector by maintaining the old price for premix fuel.
Nana Kwesi Bin, Chief Fisherman of Axim, at a press conference at Bentsir-Shama near Takoradi, urged the Government to ensure regular supply of the premix fuel in order to enable canoe fishermen in the country to increase their production to support the "Better Ghana" agenda.
The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) recent increase in the prices of petroleum products maintained that of premix fuel and kerosene.
Nana Bin said the Government's efforts to improve the canoe fisheries sector would yield the expected results when there was regular supply of premix fuel at a reasonable price level.
He said canoe fishermen fully support the Government to strictly enforce the ban on the use of aggravated lighting and unapproved fishing nets and inputs for fishing in country's water.
