Workers of Merchant Bank are pushing for an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders to seek amendment to some regulations of the board. Joy business report sources say the workers who own 10 percent stake in the bank largely owned by SSNIT, want a representation on the board of the bank. They argue that their stake which is worth 24 million dollars should be enough to secure them a seat on the board of Merchant. Currently the regulations guiding the bank’s operations suggest that a shareholder must have a minimum of 15 percent shares in order to be represented on the board, but this regulation the workers think is outmoded and therefore will engineer an extraordinary general meeting shortly to call for its amendment in order to get a representation on the board. Meanwhile SSNIT which owns majority stake in Merchant Bank has reconstituted the board with Marian Bannor formerly of SG-SSB as the chairperson. Dr. Daniel Seddoh, a lecturer of Central University College is one of the members of the board. Source: Joy FM
