Several workers from the Tema Dock Company have been arrested after clashes with the police.
The arrest follows a decision by the workers to lock up management of the company for failing to hold a referendum to decide which labour union the workers could join.
A worker, Eric Bull, speaking to Joy News’ Sammy Darko said while management had arranged for a later time for the said voting to be conducted, the agitated workers demanded to take the exercise before start of work Friday.
He conceded his colleagues had locked up management of the company for several minutes until the arrival of a special task force from the Tema Police Command.
The police are said to have fired several gunshots and water canisters to disperse the mob.
There has not been any official word from the police but sources close to the Tema Police Command say the arrested workers could be charged with attempting to kidnap.
