An Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Gifty Oware-Mensah has called on girls to embrace football.

According to her, the sport has the potential to transform their lives and communities.

Speaking at the unveiling of the Girls for Goals project, a nine-month initiative aimed at promoting women's football and empowering young girls across Ghana, she noted that football offers the platform to build confidence and self-esteem.

"The GFA believes in providing an enabling environment for young girls to promote grassroots football and increase participation. The Girls for Goals project empowers young girls through sports, education, and healthy lifestyles, inspiring them to reach their full potential,” she stated.

The programme seeks to advance gender equality through sports, education, and healthy lifestyles, inspiring young girls to reach their full potential.

It also seeks to challenge societal perceptions of women and girls in football, using the sport as a tool to advocate for a more just and equal society.

“Football offers a platform to build confidence, self-esteem, and social connections across cultures, ages, and backgrounds,” said Gifty Oware-Mensah.

"Women’s football has the power to transform lives, communities, and societies.”

Through the project, the GFA aims to develop skills, foster confidence, and reshape attitudes about football being a male-dominated sport.

“Together, we can create a society where women and girls have the opportunity to pursue their passions in football,” Gifty Oware-Mensah added.
