Madam Christie Carl Oparebea, National Chairperson of the Women's Wing of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC) on Wednesday called on women to boldly fight for gender equality.
Madam Oparebea who is also the chairperson of the Western Regional Women Committee of PSWU was speaking at the second quarterly meeting of the Sekondi/ Takoradi Women's Wing of the Union at Takoradi.
She said women could contribute greatly to the development of the country, their communities and families if they are able to achieve gender equality.
Madam Oparebea urged women to take interest in national affairs instead of confining their role in the society to the kitchen, adding, they acquaint themselves with government policies to enable them contribute effectively towards national development.
She urged them to develop the habit of reading and to advise their children to refrain from electoral violence during the forthcoming elections.
