Wolverhampton 4 – 0 Blackpool

Wolves climbed off the bottom of the Premier League table and out of the relegation zone with a classy and trouble-free win over 10-man Blackpool. A stylish move which ended with a fine, curled Matthew Jarvis shot put the home side ahead inside two minutes. The Tangerines then had DJ Campbell sent off late in the first half for raising his hands at Richard Stearman. And the hosts cantered home thanks to Jamie O'Hara's fine low shot and two late Sylvan Ebanks-Blake strikes. Although Wolves left it until the latter stages to secure their biggest win in the Premier League, even the most loyal Blackpool fan would struggle to argue with the margin of victory. The visitors, shorn of the services of the suspended Charlie Adam in midfield, were second-best in the centre of the park from the first few seconds. The willingness of David Edwards to support lone frontman Kevin Doyle, combined with the combative nature of Karl Henry and O'Hara, set the perfect platform and allowed the livewire Jarvis and Adam Hammill to roam forward on the flanks. Blackpool's central trio never got to grips with the home side's five-man midfield and were soon trailing to a glorious team goal. The move began with the home side retaining possession with a confidence that made a mockery of their pre-game bottom-of-the-table status and ended with a delightful, measured finish from Jarvis. In between, Hammill, Ronald Zubar, Edwards were all involved before Hammill slipped the ball to Jarvis. Wolves built on their dream start with a stylish performance. The impressive Edwards was denied by a fine stop by goalkeeper Richard Kingson and the muscular figure of George Elokoboi had a powerful header from a corner ruled out when Christophe Berra was deemed to have fouled Kingson. Visiting boss Ian Holloway could have been forgiven for expecting a great deal more from a side who should have been buoyed by their gripping 3-1 midweek victory over Tottenham. But Blackpool looked ragged in defence and lacked their usual poise in attack. Campbell almost squeezed in an equaliser from a Ludovic Sylvestre corner, Keith Southern nearly got on the end of a teasing David Vaughan centre and Luke Varney - an early replacement for Sergey Kornilenko - blazed wide. But the Tangerines were a shadow of the explosive, attacking side that has charmed fans up and down the country this season. And their hopes of salvaging something from a below-par display all but disappeared when Campbell was shown red for pushing Stearman in the face. By contrast their opponents showed no signs of feeling sorry for themselves following their agonising failure to see out a lead against Black Country rivals West Brom last time out. The Molineux crowd started and ended the game singing in tribute to their former defender Dean Richards, who died at the age of 36 after a long-term battle with a serious illness. And in between, the performance served as a fitting tribute to the commanding centre-half. Any possible fear that they may be unable to turn dominance into goals faded soon after the break, when O'Hara won possession and purposefully strode forward to fire low into the net on 53 minutes. From then on Wolves camped inside the Blackpool half. O'Hara went close with another effort from distance before they as good as wrapped up the win through substitute Ebanks-Blake. The striker grabbed his first when he smashed the ball home from close range following an inviting Doyle cross. And he added the home side's fourth with a tidy finish across Kingson after excellent work from fellow sub Stephen Ward. Wolves, who kept a clean sheet for the first time in seven games, have moved up to fourth from bottom - only four points behind Blackpool. Source: BBC
