Ghana international shot stopper William Amamoo is organizing a fundraising dinner in Israel to help deprived children in Africa.
The goalkeeper, who plies his trade with Israeli-based club Hapoel Petah Tikva is using the October 31 event to launch his charity organization, Black Panther Foundation in Petah Tikva.
Amamoo, whose organization has helped needy children and families in Africa, Asia and some parts of Europe, is in touch with some players in the Israeli Ligat Ha’Al, notably among them Hapoel Tel Aviv goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama of Nigeria and fellow goalkeeper Austin Ejide, also of the Nigerian national team to support his humanitarian effort.
“We all have a role to play to put smiles on other people’s faces. We cannot do all but the little we can afford can go a long way to touch a heart. Every penny counts and I appeal to all to support this cause,” the 25-year-old Ghana international said ahead of the programme in a press statement to Goal.com.
Amamoo added, “We are also going to set aside some amount of money for the deprived children of Israel to also enjoy from this fund. Helping society is everyone’s responsibility and we can all play a part with our widow’s mite.”
Expected to grace the occasion and to give their support is the management of Hapoel Petah Tikva, Maccabi Ashdod, players from other clubs in Israel, members of the Ghanaian community in Israel, the director of the British Council, officials of the Israeli Discount Bank and the Sheraton Hotel.
Amamoo is respected among his colleagues for his humanitarian efforts towards the poor.
In October 2008, he made a US$10, 000 donation to former Ghana goalkeeper Ibrahim Dossey who was bed-ridden in Romania after a car accident. After the player’s death he helped fund his daughter’s education.
Recently, Amamoo made a cash donation of 2000 euros and foodstuff worth 1000 euros to a deprived Ethiopian family who reached him for help. He also doled out US$12,000 for two families last year for a heart surgery.
