Lying has been considered as a universal phenomenon and both men and women are guilty of this behaviour.

Men like women often lie for a variety of reasons and to understand this complex subject, it is essential to delve into the various reasons that may contribute to this.

On Friday’s Super Morning Show on Joy FM, callers shared interesting perspectives on the subject; why men lie.

According to some, men are bound to lie because it is necessary to keep their relationships intact. They emphasised the need to keep certain things private if one wants to enjoy their marriage or relationship.

They stated clearly that sometimes men should even deny the truth even when they are caught to protect their family.

“Lying is like oxygen to the man, every man grows with it, without lying you cannot keep your relationships intact till you die,” one caller said.

“There are certain things, it’s better not said, sometimes you make some mistakes and you better not say it, even if you’re caught, you deny it because you love your wife or your partner, that’s the truth, we shouldn’t be hypocritical about it,” another caller emphasised.

Robert from Goaso who also called in, revealed that dating and marriage are two different things, and must not be overlapped.

He explained that it is not much of a big deal if a man has another woman aside from his girlfriend in a relationship, because it is just dating and as far as he is concerned, divorce only happens in marriages and not in relationships.

Due to this, Robert believes lying is a non issue in a relationship, and he does not think any woman should be hurt about it.

“We’re brought up in a society where dating is dating and marriage is marriage, I have never seen divorce in dating, divorce only happens in marriage.”

“There’s no need dating another woman... (in addition to) your actual woman and the other feeling they’re being lied to, why do you even want to know, we’re dating, we’re not married,” he explained.

According to Robert, dating multiple women only helps in choosing the right one and believes that women should understand the competition aspect of dating and do better to be chosen.

“I am multi-dating because I am choosing and you knowing that I have the opportunity of choosing means you should up your game to win my choice.”

“If it becomes you alone then its marriage, I don’t see a lie, if I would tell the lady that I’m dating another lady and it will offend her, then I will not tell her, I’ll close my mouth and you can’t call me a liar for things I have not said,” Robert argued.
