Singer and songwriter Odakky Andy of TV3 Mentor fame has asked Ghanaian social media users to stop throwing shade at musicians, particularly in Ghana.
He considers it a bad habit when netizens backlash musicians on social media platforms, for any mishaps.
According to him, some artistes including himself, lose international deals and collaborations due to the negative-driven comments.
Speaking in an interview with Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning on Thursday, the singer recounted how he lost a contract with a Nigerian-based record label due to trolls about him.
“How we’re using our social media to backlash and insult our artistes is a very bad attitude. The pull-him-down syndrome is too much. I got the opportunity to go to Nigeria, and a record label tried to work with me, but when I got there, I realised that they don’t value artistes from other countries other than their own until they took us to a live band joint, and I gave them breakages and leakages. So, one time they told me they wanted to release the songs I recorded on social media and test the market, but I said they couldn’t release my songs without a contract…” Odakky Andy narrated.
He said “For one week, nobody was talking to me, but when I questioned them, they called me to sit with them and watch the comments from people in my country that say my career is dead and they are rather trying to resurrect it. That’s when I realised those comments... when you get your three cedis bundle, just say something good about your artistes.”
He said since the contract failed, he decided to return to Ghana and continue with his music journey by creating his own record label.
He had not been able to stream his songs on music platforms since he began recording, for fear of the backlash he might receive from people. But after listening to advice by some trusted industry players, the musician has started streaming with the help of his current team members.
After staying off for a while, the singer and barber is out with a new song titled ‘Prayer’, which he says is a good news message and can be classified as a gospel song.
