Chief Executive Officer of Wembley Sports Construction, Robert Coleman, has recommended the ‘hybrid system’ that combines astroturfs and stadiums to address pitch challenges in Ghana.
The Baba Yara Sports Stadium, which recently hosted Ghana's game against Angola, had its license revoked by CAF due to an “unsuitable playing field”.
The decision now raises the possibility that Ghana may host their next home match against Sudan for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers abroad.
"I am of the firm view that we must be in a positon to upgrade the stadia that we have and the hybrid system is there,” Coleman told JoySports.
“We can use the various astroturfs that we are doing currently within our communities because if you go to Istanbul alone, we have over 3,234 different astrofurfs with different sizes.
“If you go to Barcelona, over 2000, I have all the statistics. That should tell you they have also embraced astroturfs and they know it is something good that can help them.
"When it comes to their main stadia then they use the very expensive ones that are certified by FIFA so I think we can also get these people to come and look at what we are doing here then we can use the hybrid system.”
Ghana will face Sudan on October 10, looking to bounce back after a disappointing start to their qualifiers, having picked up just one point from a possible six following a defeat to Angola and a draw with Niger in Group F.
