The Ghana Police Service has said it is working to ensure that violence is reduced as much as possible ahead of the parliamentary and presidential elections.
There is heightened tension among political party rivals as the campaign intensifies.
On Sunday, a peace walk by supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) turned violent in Jamestown in the Odododiodoo constituency.
In a number of video clips widely shared on social media platforms, it showed supporters of the two main parties throwing bottles as well as hauling stones and insults at each other.
But Director of Operations of the Ghana Police Service, Dr Sayibu Pabi Gariba indicated that incidents such as these will inform the mechanisms around which deployments will be made by the National Election Security Taskforce.
“Even with the clash at Odododiodoo, we are looking at that. We will keep moving on to see how all those issues will influence our deployment,” he said.
He was speaking at a forum on peace and security organised by the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu.
Dr Gariba also revealed that lessons learnt from the just-ended voters' registration exercise by the Electoral Commission will be factored into making the election policing a seamless one.
“Based on the lessons learnt during the voters’ registration exercise, it is important that we factor that into our deployment and so many other issues.”
He was speaking at a forum on peace and security organised by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.
The Director of Operations further assured the public of an enhanced policing system before, during and after the polls.
The Odododiodoo Constituency has 50 hotspots per the Ghana Police Service’s latest assessments of flashpoints in the country as the December election approaches. It is has the most hotpots in the Greater Accra Region.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Region leads the country's list of hotspots with 635 identified flashpoints in its districts.
