Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh

Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has taken a swipe at the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) over its 24-hour economy policy.

The Vice Presidential Candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), also known as ‘Napo’, condemned the NDC policy, saying it would not benefit the country after the NDC Presidential Candidate John Dramani Mahama allegedly suggested that nightclubs would also benefit from the 24-hour economy policy.

According to Napo, the NDC's plan to promote 24-hour nightclubs is a strong indication that it lacks ideas and also doesn't have the interest and well-being of the people, especially the energetic youth, at heart.

Instead of 24-hour nightclubs, he said Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP, who have the country at heart, would rather empower the people, notably the youth, with valuable skills, which would enhance their future.

"The NPP and our Presidential Candidate, Dr Bawumia has the interest and welfare of the citizens at heart, so we will empower them with valuable skills and not a 24-hour night club, which is of no benefit", he noted.

Napo, who was speaking during the 2nd annual conference of the Ghana Unity Professional Tailors and Dressmakers Association on Friday, stated that linking the NDC’s 24-hour economy policy to nightclubs proves the party’s gross incompetence.

The programme was under the theme 'Peaceful Elections 2024, the desire of fashion designers'. It was held on the campus of Wenchi Farms Institute in the Bono Region.

The NPP, Napo clearly explained, believes in skills development so it would continue to prioritize Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) when Dr Bawumia becomes president on January 7, 2025.

He was of the view that skills development can help reduce unemployment as more people would become gainfully employed, financially sound, and well positioned to fend for themselves, and also contribute to the development of the economy.

Napo also said the NPP is the only government that usually introduces policies that benefit businesses and artisans, and thus reiterated his call on the electorates to renew the mandate of the NPP when they exercise their franchise on December 7.

The NPP running mate sternly cautioned the electorates against the temptation of voting for the incompetent NDC, whom he accused of always introducing policies that tend to collapse businesses and deepen hardship.

He reminded Ghanaians, especially artisans and business owners that the NDC plunged the country into total darkness also known as ‘Dumsor’ in the local parlance, when they were in government, which collapsed businesses so they should reject the NDC and ex-President Mahama.

According to Napo, it took the timely intervention of the NPP government before the Dumsor menace was effectively dealt with, which saved the work of artisans.

He therefore warned that the NDC and John Mahama are still incompetent, and will return the country to Dumsor if they mistakenly get access to power again, reiterating his appeal for Ghanaians to retain the NPP in power.
