We’ll do honest and impartial work – Ablakwa

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Chairman of the five-member committee established by President-elect John Mahama to investigate suspected corruption cases, has assured the public that the committee will conduct its work honestly and impartially.

According to Ablakwa, the committee will conduct its work independently to address the wrongs in the system.

“We assure you that we will not embark on a witch-hunt. We will carry out our mandate in a very honest, impartial, and objective manner,” he stated.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Wednesday, a day after Mr Mahama formed the team, Ablakwa reassured the public to trust the committee, pointing to his track record in parliament on accountability.

“You have followed the work that some of us have done even in parliament. It has always been about the evidence, the documentation, and what we intercept that will protect the public purse, expose corruption, and highlight wrongdoing, helping our country move forward. That is our motivation,” he noted.

The Member of Parliament emphasized that the committee is not on a mission of "personal vendetta" or aimed at targeting innocent individuals who have committed no crime.

This committee is Mr Mahama’s first initiative in the fight against corruption in the country even before he's sworn into office on January 7, 2025.

The core mandate of the committee is to collect and investigate suspected corruption cases and related matters.

According to Mr Ablakwa, all investigated cases will be forwarded to the incoming Attorney-General and the Office of the Special Prosecutor to be appointed by the new government.

These authorities will then further examine the cases and pursue prosecution where necessary.
