Nursing mothers and health workers at Sefwi Domeabra in the Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region have lamented over the lack of a weighing centre in the community.
The deficiency has, therefore, forced them to resort to weighing children under a tree in the area.
However, the temporary alternative has not solved the problem since they are frequently attacked by snakes and insects.
“It has not been easy at all. Sometimes we will be sitting here and a snake will just fall from the tree and the whole place becomes chaotic because everyone is running.
“So when we come for weighing we really suffer,” they told Adom News.
The mothers also added that on a rainy days the weighing activities come to a halt as they seek refuge in homes close to the ‘weighing centre’.
“The nurses complain a lot but we understand them. It is not that they do not want to do the job, but the logistics to enable them work is unavailable.”
They, therefore, appealed to government and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to support them with a suitable weighing centre. Moreover, a member of the Domeabra health committee, Dacosta Oppong revealed that the community has started the construction of a suitable health facility but needs support to complete and furnish the project.
