Deputy Sports Minister Vincent Oppong Asamoah has reiterated government's resolve to implement all accepted recommendations of the 2014 World Cup report White Paper.
The Attorney General, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong last week presented the document to the media and general public only for some pundits to question the government's will to press forward with investigations of its own officials, especially those who were in cabinet at the time.
But Oppong Asamoah says the government is out to prove doubters wrong.
“I have to tell you that the minister is so serious about the committees report. Just wait and see what happens because we are tasking the ministry on some parts to take certain actions and those in our jurisdiction would be worked on.”
The findings of the Dzamefe Commission looked to have overly concentrated on the GFA, according to watchers, while the key issues that affected the country which seems to point at government’s direction were largely ignored by the findings of the probe.
Ghana’s disgrace at the World Cup was highlighted by government’s failure to pay the players after several failed promises which led to the revolt by the Black Stars; the flying of the money to Brazil caused further embarrassment as it was carried on live television, and the treatment of supporters also added to the shame.
The final Dzamefe Commission report itself has, curiously, still not been released although the constitution demands that both report and White Paper be made open simultaneously.
