Residents of the Effia constituency in the Western Region have expressed their appreciation for the former Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Joseph Cudjoe.
During a visit to the former MP by some opinion leaders from across the constituency, they reflected on the MP's achievements in the constituency and wished him well in his future endeavours.
Mr. Cudjoe was praised by the residents for the numerous initiatives he brought to the constituency, and they pledged to continue supporting him even as he concluded his parliamentary duties.
A resident, PK Fletcher, said, “As your 12-year tenure as the Member of Parliament for Effia concludes, we, the people of Effia, express our deepest appreciation for your outstanding service and dedication. Your leadership has touched every corner of our constituency, transformed lives, and fostered growth in ways we will always cherish.”
Another resident, Emanuel Ackon, added, “Hon. Joseph Cudjoe will be deeply missed as the Member of Parliament for Effia Constituency, a position you held from January 7, 2013, to January 6, 2025. During your tenure, you brought about significant transformation and development to the constituency, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of its people.”

In the field of education, the former MP and Deputy Energy minister have been recognised for his tremendous contributions to the constituency since 2012. According to the residents, his “contributions to education have been remarkable, from the installation of solar water systems at Ghana Telecom University to solar panels at the TTU library. You prioritised creating an environment where learning could thrive.”
“The streetlights you installed across the TTU and TTI campuses ensured safety for students and staff alike. You established computer labs at Ahmadiyya and Al-Azariya schools, constructed toilet facilities, and fenced Al-Azariya School to enhance security. Lagos Town School benefitted from rehabilitation and compound paving, while Good Shepherd Anglican School and Effia Kuma Cluster of Schools saw the construction of new classroom blocks and the provision of furniture,” Mr. Fletcher noted in his address.
Under his tenure, the constituency also saw the construction of a 12-smart-classroom block for Effia Methodist School, and Mr. Cudjoe’s initiative to offer free classes for JHS 3 and pre-tertiary students further demonstrated his commitment to education.
In addressing water and sanitation issues, Mr. Cudjoe was credited with “bringing life-changing solutions. Solar-powered boreholes were introduced at locations such as Fitting Junction, Methodist Education Unit, and Astoria New Site. Communities benefitted from water systems at Effia Upper Town, Lower Town, and areas like Insan Mosque and New Site. Additional boreholes were established in Chicago, Moringa Avenue, and Lagos Town Pentecost Church, ensuring consistent access to clean water.”
According to Mr. Fletcher, the former MP also made significant strides in health and sports. “Your focus on healthcare was impactful, with the construction of the Effia CHPS compound and a new hospital, alongside material support for government and private clinics. In sports, you built AstroTurf pitches at Effia Kuma Police Park and Lagos Town, launched the Effia Community League, and supported local teams and players. These projects have provided a platform for youth development and recreation.”
Mr. Ackon further acknowledged Mr. Cudjoe’s contributions to the infrastructure development of the area, stating, “Your dedication to the physical infrastructure development of your constituency is unmatched. You advocated for the building of the Effia Social Centre, which you later made a case to be used to host EKMA. You contributed to educational infrastructure at all the schools in Effia Constituency.”
He emphasised, “As you bid farewell to your role as MP, the people of Effia Constituency will remember you for your selfless service, visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment to their well-being. Your legacy will continue to inspire future generations, and your contributions will always be cherished.”
Mr. Cudjoe served the people of Effia from 2012 to 2024 and has over the years held key positions and played an important role in the administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
