Nana Kwame Bediako's twelve-point policy captures the creative economy in areas of music, film, fashion and art.
During his virtual policy launch held on Sunday, September 1, 2024, the Leader and Presidential Aspirant for The New Force (who is popularly known as Cheddar), dedicated his 12th Apostolic Governance pillar to the arts and culture.
He mentioned how beneficial the establishment of an ultra-modern film studio will be to Ghana's film industry.
"We need to build a world class studio. Ghana is the Blackstar of Africa. This studio needs to be in Ghana. We need to build that studio, that Hollywood type studio, that Tyler Perry studio type - and that is what is going to attract the market from other countries. It’s going to boost tourism, it’s gonna bring people from South Africa, Nigeria, England, Europe, America to come here and make their movies, and do their productions," he said.
He also highlighted the right machine for pushing regulations that will protect the intellectual property of our content creators.
"We are talking from bloggers, influencers, YouTubers, authors, painters, musicians, music softwares, film makers, software licenses, all of this, we have to protect them. We have to claim the royalties and we have to make sure that it is circulating in the economy. Because they are part of us. To allow artistes to hold on to their catalogues such that they are not sold for pittance," he said.
Cheddar further underscored the need to let the National Security collaborate with the National Communications Authority and the cyber security department to clamp down on piracy.
"That is the biggest corruption in this area. And I know the likes of all the musicians in this country right now, artistes, and everybody you need this. I need it for you too. We need to clamp it down so we can get our real income; our real royalties will come to us, without people interjecting or intercepting the funds before it gets to us. Once we secure our publishing terrain, it will elevate our creative industry to deal with international entertainment corporations, such as the Sony, the Universal. We need to partner with them. The iTunes to distribute songs, all the international giants," he added.
Touching on fashion, Nana Kwame Bediako indicated that if in Ghana fashion gets the production and marketing power it will serve the nation greatly.
"Fashion is important. The way you dress is the way you are addressed. We have to create a world class art gallery for the African art and culture. And this comes together, it comes together with the people. You have to mix the two. Mix the pattern, the plan and the production," he noted.
Apart from The New Force, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have also outlined their policy ideas for the tourism, arts and culture.
