The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) has called on members to unite to move the party forward, saying they should have been the party at the helm of affairs celebrating fifty years on independence.
The message of unity ran through all the speeches at a vigil organized by the Greater Accra Regional Branch of the party to usher in the historical celebration of Ghana's 50th anniversary.
Kwasi Akoto National organiser of the Party said that under normal circumstances the CPP should be at the helm of the celebrations for the independence anniversary.
The vigil, attended by leading members of the party as well as guest and sympathizers was interspersed with hip and high life songs, goodwill messages from members and words of encouragement from sympathizers.
Dr Agyeman Badu Akosa, Former Director General of the Ghana Health Service, who affirmed his commitment to the party, said it was not good for the CPP to wash its dirty linen in public.
He advised members to unite and be forward looking adding that, the CPP was the only party that cared about the poor in society.
"We should have been the party enacting the independence of Ghana today," Dr Akosa said reminding Ghanaians that CPP was the only party that could save the nation.
Kwaku Baako Jnr., a member of the party, said the challenge for the CPP was to look for a way forward for the party expressing concern about its inability to unite and move forward.
He said: "Fourteen years is too long to continue proving incapable."
Mr Baako, who is also the Managing Editor of the Crusading Guide renewed his commitment to the party.
Prof. Nana Kofi Ayisi, a leading member of the party noted that the CPP family was one that cared for one another and still believed in the pan-Africanist philosophy of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first President.
"The NPP/NDC philosophy is the same," he held, and also pledge continual support for the party, saying, "The day I cease to believe in God is the day I cease to be a member of the CPP."
