The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has called on Ghanaians to renew their commitment to the principles enshrined in the 1992 Constitution as the nation marks Constitution Day.

The NCCE stated that Constitution Day, which coincided with the swearing-in of President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, symbolises Ghana's unwavering dedication to democracy, the rule of law, and national unity.

In a press release, the NCCE congratulated President Mahama on his re-election and commended Vice President Opoku-Agyemang for her historic achievement as the first woman to hold the position in Ghana.

The Commission expressed hope that her trailblazing role would inspire women across the country and generations to come.

The NCCE highlighted the resilience of Ghana’s democratic institutions and the maturity displayed during the December 2024 elections.

The Commission praised Ghanaians for their active participation in the electoral process, which was conducted in line with democratic principles.

As the country transitioned into a new administration, the NCCE emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and respect for the rule of law in building a prosperous Ghana.

“Peaceful coexistence and national cohesion are the bedrock of effective governance and national development,” the statement noted, urging citizens to prioritise unity and constructive dialogue, irrespective of political, ethnic, or religious differences.

The Commission reiterated that democracy does not end with elections but requires continuous effort to nurture peace, tolerance, and respect for diversity in daily life.

As the nation commemorates Constitution Day, the NCCE called on all citizens to safeguard Ghana’s democratic gains by upholding the values of equality, justice, and inclusiveness enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.

“The strength of our nation lies in our ability to live and work together in unity,” the Commission stated, urging every Ghanaian to contribute to building a peaceful and cohesive society.
