A Deputy General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed has assured the flagbearer aspirants of the party that the upcoming elections will be conducted in a free and fair manner.
This follows claims by some aspirants that they have been sidelined by the party in the verification exercise aimed at cleaning up the party album ahead of the polls.
According to Mr Mohammed, the party intends to conduct the polls devoid of any biases, therefore, candidates should not be worried about the ongoing verification process.
“Yes, they will be informed, they are very critical stakeholders in this election and we intend to have a very clean and transparent election,” he said on Newsnight on Joy FM. This was in response to questions about how they intend to involve candidates in the processes leading to the Special Delegates' Conference.
He explained that although the party mentioned that they would produce a list of individuals who will vote in the Special Delegates’ Conference, that is not the exercise taking place currently.
On the same show, the spokesperson of the Alan Kyeremanten campaign team, Yaw Buaben Asamoa called for transparency in all the processes to ensure that all aspirants are involved in the entire process before the Special Delegates' Congress.
He added that his camp was not included in the current verification process and its intended outcome.
In response, the Deputy General Secretary said the process was to remove deceased persons from the list and ensure that a clean register is produced after which various stakeholders would be involved.
He stressed that the verification process began before the nomination process of presidential aspirants adding that, “nobody has been left out in this particular process.
“At the point that we need to have all stakeholders including aspirants have a say in that process, they would be called to have a say in that process.”
The spokesperson of the Bawumia campaign team, Nana Akomea called on the national executives of the party to ensure that all aspirants are made aware of all the processes the party was undertaking.
