A victim of the recent flooding in the Upper East region has complained about the shortage of food at their facility in the Kansena-Nakana West District.
Helena Panlingo who is one of the several victims currently taking shelter at Manyoro area council building.
Speaking to Joy News’ Albert Sore, she bemoaned the poor living conditions at the shelter.
“We are suffering here and we beg that you help us rebuild our houses. All our foodstuffs are spoilt we don’t even know what to eat,” she pleaded.
About 200 houses were destroyed and approximately 640 people were left stranded following recent heavy rains over the last month.
The flood left 20 people dead and several others sustaining several degrees of injury.
Helena recounted her traumatic experience to Joy News describing how she and her family narrowly escaped death.
“We nearly lost our lives when our roof got broken,” she said
She appealed to organisations and members of the public to come to their aid with food and relief items.
Though government officials as well Red Cross and NADMO have been touring parts of the areas affected, help is yet to arrive for victims of the floods.
