Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has expressed confidence in the party's victory in the upcoming general election.
He believes the NPP is deserving of the win due to the significant strides they have made in advancing the nation.
Speaking at the NPP manifesto launch in Takoradi, Dr. Opoku Prempeh declared, "We have a general election to win, and this general election we will win, with God it is possible, this is a call to duty for all of us.”
He went on to highlight the importance of the manifesto, describing it as a blueprint for governance under Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. “Today’s manifesto launch is not just an event; it is a demonstration of our vision and policies that will guide Dr. Bawumia when, by God’s grace, he assumes office on January 7th,” he said.
Dr Opoku Prempeh emphasized that Dr. Bawumia is ready to lead from day one, without any need for a honeymoon period. He noted that the NPP has a proven track record of delivering on its promises, as evidenced by the successes of 2016 and 2020.
Reflecting on the past, he recounted a moment when Dr. Bawumia called on him to account for the progress in education, a challenge that led to deep reflection and significant achievements.
He praised President Akufo-Addo’s dedication to making the right decisions for the country, particularly in the field of education. “Based on the work we have done, I am confident that Ghanaians will give us the mandate to continue our efforts,” he said.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh commended President Akufo-Addo for his transformative initiatives, particularly the introduction of free SHS and free TVET.
He highlighted the president’s efforts to modernize education by providing school laboratories, equipping teachers and students with laptops, and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed.
He also reminded the audience of the challenges faced by students before the NPP’s interventions. “When President Akufo-Addo took office in 2017, 40,000 Ghanaian students who had passed the WASSCE exams could not access their results because they couldn’t afford the examination fees. Thousands more were unable to attend Senior High School due to financial constraints. But today, every child who enters secondary school leaves with their best possible results,” he noted.
Dr Opoku Prempeh concluded by asserting that President Akufo-Addo made the impossible possible and has done an extraordinary job in improving education in Ghana. “When critics said you were diluting education or lowering standards, you proved them wrong. That is what true leadership and delivery look like,” he affirmed.
