Following news that Tiger Eye P.I. has been prevented from screening their documentary, ‘Galamsey Economy’ at the Accra International Conference Centre, the Management of the Centre has come out to refute the claim.
According to the Director for the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), Vivian K. A. Asempapa, the AICC has not stated that the venue is unavailable for the screening.
She explained that while indeed there was a scheduling mishap, the event has not been affected by it.
She has thus called on the general public to treat with contempt allegations that the supposed cancellation was politically influenced.
“The initial confusion was due to a scheduling conflict at the level of the AICC staff and not in any way a political decision as being speculated.
“The matter has been resolved. We have made contact with the organisers and the event is expected to come off as scheduled,” she said.
Her statements come on the back of a press release from Tiger Eye stating that the AICC, in less than 48 hours to the screening of the ‘Galamsey Economy’ documentary had cancelled the venue reservation.
In a press release announcing the hitch, Tiger Eye P.I. stated that they have “already fulfilled every requirement of AICC to use the place including payment for the venue despite last minute change in cost by about per cent (30%).”
“Tiger Eye is saddened that barely 48 hours to the public screenings, when invitations have been sent to the diplomatic community and other high-profile individuals in society, and flyers sent out to the public, we have had to look for a new venue,” they added.
However, AICC has said the allegation was merely a misunderstanding and that the venue is still available to host the screening on Monday and Tuesday (14 &15) of November.
