The First Minority Whip in Parliament, Habib Iddrisu, has apologised for the violent incident that occurred during the Appointments Committee’s meeting on 30th January.
In a statement made on *JoyNews' Newsfile* programme on Saturday, 1st February, Iddrisu expressed regret for the disturbance, which arose amidst the vetting of ministerial nominees.
"We are sorry for the violence that occurred. It was an unfortunate situation that we deeply regret," Iddrisu said.
He acknowledged that while the Minority's actions were driven by frustration over the vetting process, they did not condone the altercation that led to disruptions.
The chaos during the meeting was attributed to heightened tensions between the Minority and Majority sides, with accusations of procedural unfairness and lack of consensus building.
Despite the incident, Iddrisu emphasised that the Minority remains committed to its duty of oversight and ensuring the vetting process is fair and transparent.
He reassured the public that the Caucus would continue to act in good faith, in line with parliamentary rules and the democratic process.
He also reiterated that the Minority is determined to hold the government to account for the choices it makes in ministerial appointments.
While expressing regret over the event, Iddrisu called on the Majority to take steps to avoid such situations in the future.
He suggested that more effort should be made to involve all parties in a constructive dialogue, thereby upholding the dignity of Parliament and preventing the recurrence of violence during future sessions.
