Black Satellites captain, Owusu Bempah has admitted they let the nation down with their performance in the Fifa Under 20 World Cup in New Zealand.

The Satellites were thrashed by Mali three goals to nothing in Wellington in the early hours of Wednesday.

The result saw the team crash out of the tournament in the round of 16 stage. The result is seen as considerable retrogression by this team as the teams of 2009 and 2013 made it to the medal zone of the competition.

The defender admits their performance was below par. “We will have to apologize to Ghanaians with our performance because we did not meet the expectations,” Bempah said

“We kept in all that we had but sometimes football is that way. When we look at the performance it was not the level that was expected of us.”

Owusu Bempah started the first game against Austria but lost his place in the team to Kingsley Fobi in the remaining games of the tournament.
