A night “watchman” who turned round to steal some of the items he was employed to protect, has been sentenced to six years imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court.
Abdul Karim pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own plea.
Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei told the court presided over by Madam Wilhelmina Hammond, that Abubakr Mohammed, complainant, was a driver who lived at Adukrom-Nima in Kumasi where Karim also resided.
She said Mohammed employed Karim as a watchman to watch his house since his work took him out of town most of the time.
Chief Inspector Baffour-Kyei said in January this year, while Mohammed had travelled to Takoradi, he received a call from Karim that thieves had broken into his room.
She said Mohammed returned from the trip and noticed that some of his personal belongings; a table top fridge, a television set, two amplifiers, three VCD decks and a DVD among other things had been stolen.
Chief Inspector Baffour-Kyei said Mohammed, who found some of the lost items in Karim’s room, caused his arrest.
Karim admitted stealing the items, some of which were retrieved.
