Police in Walewale in the West Mamprusi Municipality have declared war against armed robbers in the region following a robbery incident Saturday.
“We are doing our best, and we are coming out to fight them. We are waging a war against them now, so it’s not going to be easy,” he said.
The robbery attack saw several passengers raided at gunpoint by three armed men who had blocked a stretch of the Tamale-Bolga highway near Walewale.
The Municipal Police Commander, DSP Cosmos Awe, made the declaration as the Police intensify a manhunt for the attackers.
He, however, called on residents in the area to help in the war against the robbers by volunteering information about suspicious characters and their activities.
“They must rise and help us because these things are happening within the communities here so when they don’t volunteer information, it will be difficult but we are doing our best,” he said.
DSP Cosmos was speaking after the Police raided several Fulani communities along the highway in search of suspects.
According to him, information gathered indicated that the robbers were following a businessman in particular.
“We are picking information that these people trailed them from Bolga. They were trailing somebody in particular, not a team that operated in Walewale, because it happened in Walewale,” he revealed.
He said, “they monitored a businessman who was coming to buy building materials and came to collect the money from him. So they are from his own place because they know he was carrying money and that’s why they followed him here to take the money.
“That was their target, so once it has happened, we are going to strategise to fight,” he maintained.
