It has been an incredible eight months for Gideon Waja with the culmination of it being a debut call-up to the Black Stars.
The midfielder began the season as the new captain of WAFA after Martin Antwi parted ways with the club. Under Waja’s leadership, the Sogakope side have reached unparalleled heights in the history of the academy.
After 29 winless games on the road, WAFA beat Wa All Stars 4-1 in Wa to begin an impressive run of games which has seen them in contention for the league title and also the first club to cross the magical 40 point mark this season.
Central to this has been Waja who has been pulling the strings from midfield. His good form did not go unnoticed as he earned a call-up to the Black Stars ‘B’ where he featured in both legs of their final CHAN qualifier against Burkina Faso.
The cherry on the cake is a dream debut call up for Ghana’s all-important 2018 World Cup qualifier against Congo and he is revelling in it.
“It is an honour for me and I am very happy for the call-up,” he told the media.
“I will learn a lot from the senior players in the team and if am given the opportunity I will definitely give my best.''
“It is not easy to make it into the National team so I am very happy for the invitation.”
The senior national team will host the Red Devils at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 1 before travelling to Brazzaville for the return encounter on September 5.
