About 300 workers of the Volta Star Textile company are worried the company might soon collapse.
This is because the company, formerly known as Juapong Textile, is producing under capacity as it is unable to procure cotton for production.
Local Union Chairman of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union, Bright Sikanku told Joy News the NDC through the Vice President promised to provide funds to boost the company’s operations during the 2008 electioneering campaign.
They therefore expect government to fulfill its promise.
Mr. Sikanku says “it’s a serious situation that need urgent attention… Two and half years now that the NDC came into government, we have not seen any change in Juapong.”
He said even though they have sent some formal reminders to government, their calls have fallen on deaf ears.
He said even though investors have been coming to take a look at the place, there has not been any positive results yet.
"Our final appeal to government is, Volta Star is dying again. We do not want to see the second demise of Volta Star so we are appealing to them to inject some capital into the [company]," he pleaded.
