Vodafone has confirmed it will release the new Nokia Windows Phone 7 Mango, the Lumia 800 in the UK this month, and later in other Vodafone operations, including Ghana.
“The Lumia 800 is scheduled to land in UK on November 16th,” sections of the UK online media quoted Nokia sources as saying at the just ended Nokia World Expo in London.
Vodafone has also posted Nokia Lumia 800 on its website as coming soon and confirmed it would be stocking the handset next month in UK stores, but it neglected to talk about pricing and tariffs.
But another UK-based Mobile Network, ‘Three’ has announced that the Lumia 800 would go for £26 (GHC67.5) a month for a two-year payment contract, and £399 (GHC1,035) pay-as-you-go (upfront payment).
Meanwhile Nokia sources were quoted as saying the phone would cost €420 (GHC951) from Nokia.
Vodafone UK sources were quoted as saying the Nokia Lumia 800 would be available on Vodafone’s new Data Test Drive initiative, where customers would be given three months to use as much data as they want.
“Once this period is up Vodafone accesses the user’s average consumption and that becomes the data allowance,” the source said.
Vodafone Ghana was the first to release Samsung Galaxy Tablet, Webbox, Mi-fi, HTC Android-based phone, and Samsung Galaxy S II Android-based phone in Ghana.
It is not clear when Vodafone would release the Nokia Lumia 800 in Ghana, but sources at Vodafone Ghana said they are committed to taking a leadership role in bringing relevant devices and solutions to the Ghanaian market.
It is also not clear how much the smartphone would be sold for in a developing country like Ghana.
Vodafone Ghana sells Samsung Galaxy S II loaded with a Vodafone SIM card and some data capacity for GHC1,020, whiles the shop price for the phone is GHC980.
