Michael Essien will have to wait a bit longer to discover his fate under new Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas.
The 33-year old says he does not intend to make major changes to the Chelsea squad from last year, of which Essien was an integral part, and says he will take his time before making any major decisions.
He said: "I'm more than happy with the squad. It's nothing new that when a manager comes changes are expected. But bearing in mind the success the club has had in the last six or seven years, we have to adjust things carefully and make wise decisions.
"We have top quality players and I want them back as soon as possible.
"I'm counting on everyone coming in from last year and then we will make decisions. We have plenty of time in the market."
Essien has been linked with a move away from Stanford Bridge with Real Madrid, AC Milan and Bayern Munich mentioned as possible destinations.
