Former Executive Director of Media Foundation for West Africa, Prof Kwame Karikari has cast doubt over political parties’ claim of disbanding their vigilante groups.
According to him the recent wave of acts of violence at registration centres indicates that the vigilante groups are still active
“As a country, as a democracy, these things appears on the surface as not bad enough, but they can be extremely dangerous. They can be extremely dangerous especially when you consider that the two major political parties still have vigilante groups.
"I’m not sure that they have been dismantled, disarmed and dismembered completely,” he expressed concern.
His comment follows the gun firing and stabbing incidents that have been recorded at some voter registration centres.
According to the Professor, should these occurrences remain unchecked, Ghana could be headed for a major clash come December 2020.
