Photos of a small house on the Vietnamese island of Hon Thom have been getting a lot of attention on social media for its unique fence made exclusively out of discarded old television sets.

The unusual house is reportedly located on the road to Hon Thom cable car and is very popular with tourists, for obvious reasons.

After all, it’s not every day that you pass by a fence constructed out of old, but somehow intact television sets. How those old cathode ray tubes haven’t been shattered by strong winds or vandals is a mystery, as is the reason why the owner decided on this particular material for the fence. Perhaps a television repairman lives there, or perhaps someone just hoarded them and one day decided to put them to good use. Whatever the reason, there’s no denying that the fence is a good way to attract attention.

Facebook user Thanh Tien took some photos of the unique house while visiting Hom Thom with his family, and recently posted on a popular group called Khong so Cho (Fearless Dogs) where they attracted a lot of attention. Contacted for details about the fence, Tien couldn’t say much about it, aside from the fact that it’s not his house and that it just looked cool.

While some users expressed their admiration for the house owner’s ingenuity, others questioned whether building an outdoor fence out of old TV sets was such a good idea; not necessarily because of their frail nature, but because they are a hazard both to small children and the environment.

For example, if a child were to accidentally get to close and break one of those cathode ray tubes, they could get seriously injured, not to mention all the toxic elements contained in these old sets, like mercury and lead that get washed into the earth when it rains.

Ah, who knows, maybe these people are just jealous that they didn’t think of this TV set fence first. It has reportedly been around for a few years now, and no one seems to be complaining about it. If anything, people love having their picture taken there, and even sitting down on the old TVs on their way to the cable car.

So if you’re ever in Hom Thom and looking for something truly unique, be sure to stop by the house with a TV set fence.
