Some suspected armed robbers have attempted breaking into a shop at Kwabenya in Accra, few days after a police officer was shot dead during a jailbreak.
One of the shop attendants (name withheld) told Joy News the two suspected robbers visited the boutique on Tuesday to buy some clothes.
“…they told us that their mother lives in Nigeria and that they want to buy some wrappers for her…” the shop aide told Joy News’ Maxwell Agbagba in an exclusive interview.
They, however, did not make any purchase.
Later that night, CCTV camera caught two men with a minibus at the shop shortly after that, the video footage goes off.
The attendant said on Wednesday they saw two young men who resemble the those who had visited the shop the previous day and also the ones caught on camera.
They invited the young men into the shop for questioning but the young men declined the invitation.
This led to an altercation which drew the attention of some residents and neighbours and quickly a mob gathered ready to lynch the suspected thieves.
The shop attendants and the owner of the shop, however, protected them until the police came to salvage the situation.
The men, however, denied being the ones in the CCTV footage.
The police told Joy News that the two have been sent to the Madina police station and are helping with investigations.
Some of the residents in Kwabenya tell Joy News they will not hesitate to lynch any criminal apprehended in the area because they have been tormented for far too long.
