Professor Kwesi Prah was the next to take his turn on Joy News’ ‘The Sages’.
We are delighted to have this respected scholar and highly influential voice in the Pan-Africanist world speak to us. His is the riveting story of a pragmatic and revolutionary intellectual.
Professor Prah was born in Ghana and started his career here. He has since made a name for himself as a world-renowned and prolific scholar, who has made very original contributions to knowledge.
Remarkably, he has lived and worked in nine different African countries, including once holding a professorship at the University of Juba, in South Sudan.
A committed leftist, he was a keen follower of the independence movement. Yet Prah stayed true to principle, not to the cult of personality. When his colleagues in academia started to be persecuted for their views, and some were arrested, the young and outspoken Kwesi Prah, organised to put pressure on the government of Kwame Nkrumah to bring an end to the harassment.
His actions so infuriated the powers-that-be, he had to escape into exile.
That experience did not dilute his commitment to Pan-Africanism. Ever the believer that knowledge is sought to make society better, he developed to become - by many estimations - one of Africa's foremost social scientists.
In this edition of The Sages, we are delighted to hear him share some of his reflections on many relevant issues.
